May is Arthritis Awareness month! Arthritis is a term utilized to describe inflammation of the joints. An example of arthritis is Osteoarthritis(OA),which is the most common form of arthritis. OA is the deterioration of a joint; typically weight bearing joints are affected. Patients with OA may experience symptoms such as; stiffness in the joints in the morning or after sitting or lying down for long periods of time, pain during activities that is relieved by rest, joint noises like cracking, creaking, or crunching, pain with palpation to the joint, and increased bone growth around the joint. Physical Therapy has been proven to be an effective treatment of OA. Physical Therapy may include manual techniques to decrease pain and improve movement and function. Therapeutic Exercise is utilized to improve strength, range of motion, movement, and function. Click the video to listen to Allison Thielsen, DPT explain Knee Osteoarthritis.
